Allergy Testing
Advanced Women’s Health Center offers allergy testing to help patients who have discomfort due to airborne, animal, insect, or food allergies. Allergies are common in Kern County, and our allergy specialist begins by learning your medical and allergic reaction history. Then, we perform either a skin or blood test to determine allergic sensitivity to:
- Pollen
- Molds
- Dust mites
- Animal dander
- Insect stings
- Foods
- Some medicines
Skin tests either use a drop of suspected allergen on the skin, or a tiny prick or scratch on the back or forearm. If you are allergic, the area will turn red or swell slightly. The procedure isn’t painful, but there may be some itching or bumps that go away in minutes or hours.
Allergy blood tests involve drawing a blood sample that is evaluated in our lab. Talk with your Advanced Women’s Health Center doctor about your allergy concerns to determine which type of testing is best for you.
